There is no denying the health and beauty benefits of exercise. But what if you’re not ready to commit to a gym membership or invest in expensive equipment that takes up space in your home? You can still get in shape from the comfort of your own home, with a series of easy exercises, using whatever you have available.

Leg Lifts

Lie on your back on the bed with your hands behind your head. Raise both legs all the way up, and then slowly lower them to the bed. Do 10 to 15 repetitions. If this is too difficult, place your hands under the small of your back, or do the exercise with your knees bent.

Squats

Stand with your feet hip-width apart (or one step wider if hip width is too difficult). Hold your arms out in front of you and squat down. Do 10 to 15 reps. You can use a folded towel to elevate your arches during this exercise, which may allow you to go a little lower.

Lunges

Stand up straight with your feet hip-with apart. Step forward with your right foot, bend the knees, and lower your left knee to the ground. Repeat with the opposite leg. Do 10 to 15 repetitions.

Triceps

Sit on a sofa or chair with your hands down beside you. Shift your body forward with your feet hip width apart. Lower your buttocks to the floor and raise them for 15 or more reps to work your triceps.

Biceps

Use two cloth shopping bags filled with equal amounts of weight, one in each hand. Slowly bring your arms up until your hands are almost touching your shoulders, and then slowly lower them. Do this for 15 or more reps.

Crunches

Lie on your back on the floor with your knees bent and your arms behind your head. Lift your shoulder blades off the ground while squeezing your abdominal muscles. Do 10 to 15 repetitions or more.

Plank

Get on your hands and knees on the floor with your arms held straight. Straighten your legs and go up on your toes to assume a plank position. This works the abs and the lower back at the same time. Do 10 to 15 repetitions or more.

Push Ups

Get on your hands and knees on the floor, with your arms held straight, your legs bent at the knees, and your feet and lower legs lifted off the floor. Lower your upper body to the floor and push up again. Do 10 to 15 reps.
